Gangolli: On the night of March 11, a boat named Sriguru Sannidhi faced a technical fault and hit a rock, while crossing the Gangolli channel, leading to a scary incident.
However, timely rescue work by Yaksheshwari Persin Boat and Chakramma Tourist Boat, along with other fishermen, saved the lives of six people on board, namely Dayananda Ambiga, Manjunatha, Sridhara, Ganapati, Rama, and Karuna.
Dayananda Ambiga informed the owner of the boat, Raghavendra of Koteswara, about the incident, who in turn contacted the Karavali Police Station.
The boat later drifted towards the shores after being dragged by the sea currents. The stranded boat was lifted out of the water with the help of local fishermen and a crane and brought to the shore of Gangolli Belikeri.
According to initial estimates, the boat suffered extensive damage and incurred a loss of approximately Rs 25 to 28 lakhs.
