Allahabad HC to get new CJ

New Delhi: The Punjab and Haryana High Court is set to a get a new chief justice in the coming days as the Law Ministry has cleared the name of Justice Krishna Murari for the post.
Justice Krishna Murari is a judge of the Allahabad High Court and his name to head the Punjab and Haryana High Court was cleared by the Supreme Court collegium last month.
Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal was recently appointed as the acting chief justice of the Punjab and Hayana High Court following the retirement of Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar who was heading the HC.
Meanwhile, Justice Hrishikesh Roy, a judge of the Gauhati High Court has been transferred to the Kerala High Court. Since, he is now the senior-most judge in Kerala HC, he has been asked to assume the charge of the acting chief justice following the retirement of Justice Antony Dominic.
Separate Law Ministry notifications also said Justices Krishna Singh and Rajiv Lochan Mehrotra, additional judges in the Allahabad High Court, have been elevated as permanent judges.
The Allahabad High Court at present is facing a shortage of 63 judges. While its approved strength is 160, it is doing with 97 judges.
