Andhra Pradesh: 7 killed in fire at COVID facility in Vijayawada; rescue ops on

Vijayawada: At least seven people were killed and at least 30 rescued after a major fire broke out at a hotel, which is being used as a Covid-19 facility, in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada early on Sunday.
“We have recovered seven bodies. The hotel was taken by a private hospital to treat COVID-19 patients. The fire broke out in the early hours. Rescue operations are on,” the official said.
Vijayawada police Commissioner B Srinivasulu told that they have shifted about 20 patients to various hospitals. There were 30 patients undergoing treatment at the facility and 10 hospital staff.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock over the incident.
Meanwhile, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said NDRF teams have now joined the local authorities to carry out relief operations. He also offered prayers to the families of the deceased.
