Android Go : Features and everything you need to know

Android Go was announced by Google in 2017 at its I/O developer conference. It is basically a lighter version of Android.

Android Go is a new software that has been optimized for smartphones with lower-performing processors, smaller amounts of memory, and less available mobile data. It is meant for entry-level smartphones with 512 MB to 2GB RAM.

Android Go focuses on optimizing the latest releases of Android, in order to run smoothly on budget devices. It consists of a lighter set of Google apps such as Google Chrome, which will use less memory, storage space, and mobile data.

Android Go also focuses on a light version of Google Playstore, that looks similar to the regular Play store and features the entire Android App catalog.

It even offers a Data Management and Savings settings feature, which allows users to see how much mobile data have been left based on their plan. Google already owns apps that have been redesigned for Android Go. For example, YouTube Go.

Android Go is similar to stock Android or Android One but many of the default apps have been replaced with ‘Go’ equivalents.

Google Go has replaced the Google search app, Gallery Go is available instead of Google Photos, etc.

Due to their lower memory capacities and less powerful processors,  some budget handsets are not able to handle heavier-duty apps. Android Go, on the other hand, makes sure that those who buy low-end Android sets with a lower budget avail better overall experience.

Google recently said that 80 percent of the entry-level phones run on Android Go.

Some manufacturers who build affordable Android Go edition devices are Nokia 1.3, Nokia 1.4, Nokia 1 plus, LG K20, Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, and many more.
