Mangaluru: With the aim to make it convenient for passengers travelling from Karavali to Mysuru, a direct train service between Mysuru-Mangaluru-Karwar is expected to be started in a few days. For now the service will be for only once in a week, and in the future may possibly function for four days in a week.

The Southwestern Railways has created a temporary timetable in this connection and has written a letter for permission from Souther Railways and Konkan Railways. As soon as the permission is received from the two divisions, the southwestern railways will submit a request to the railway council. The train will start functioning immediately after council gives its permission.

According to the proosed timetale, the train will commence its journey from Mysuru on Saturday night at 11:30 pm, reach Hasan at 1:30 am, reach Mangaluru Junction at 8:05 am in the morning and and conclude its journey at Karawar at 3:30 pm in the afternoon. Later, the train will start its return journey from Karwar at 4:45 pm on Sunday evening, reach Mangaluru Junction at 11:45 pm in the night, reach Hassan at 4:66 am on Monday morning and reach its destination in Mysuru at 7:30 am.

No four-times-a-week service for now?

MP Pratap Simha had submitted a request to provide the service between Mysuru-Karwar for four-times-in-a-week. Accordingly, the Mysuru railway division asked for permission from the southwestern railways. However, since there are multiple problems being faced on the railway tracks along the western ghats, the southwestern railway department informed that the permission cannot be given for now.

The railway track between Subrahmanya-Sakleshpur has been closed down due to several environment related issues. The train takes around 2 hours 30 minutes to pass through the ghat section from Subrahmanya to Sakleshpur at the speed of 35 m/hr. Currently, three trains are plying through this route and the railway department is not ready to give permission for another train.
