Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court directed the police to pay a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to Advocate Kuldeep Shetty in connection with the assault case.
Kuldeep Shetty had filed a petition to take action against Punjalakatta sub-inspector K.P. Sutesh for assaulting him.
The single-member bench of Justice Nagaprasanna ordered the State Director General of Police to undertake a departmental investigation into the guilty police officer and personnel, and produce a report within a month.
The Punjalakatta police’s actions have drawn harsh criticism from the court, which argues that they do not have the authority to intervene in civil litigation.
Lawyers were unlawfully detained and abused. Action should be taken against the concerned officers, it added.
