
Attack on K’taka fishermen: Madhwaraj urges CM Bommai to take serious note and take appropriate action

Udupi: Former Minister Pramod Madhwaraj has urged Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to take serious note of the attacks on fishermen from coastal Karnataka by their counterparts from other states and initiate appropriate action against such incidents.
On February 8, fishing boats from Karnataka were surrounded an attacked with lead, stones, and other items by Tamil Nadu Fishing boats about 50 nautical miles off the Kanyakumari Coast. The deep sea boats from Karnataka not only suffered damage in the incident.
The deep sea fishermen’s committees and associations have already strongly condemned the inhuman act. They have also appealed to the concerned department and the minister for strict action against such”unprovoked aggression.”
Pramod Madhwaraj, in his letter, has appealed to the Chief Minister to compensate the fishermen for the mental harassment suffered and for bearing the financial losses. He also requested to provide adequate security to the coastal fishermen of Karnataka and ensuring fairness in fishing activities.
