Mangaluru: Members of Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Durga Vahini held a protest here against the illegal slaughter house, cattle trafficking and cow theft at Vamanjoor here on Thusday.

Addressing the protestors, VHP leader Muralidhar Hamsathadka, said “We need to find measures to protect cows, they are holy for us, there will be need of a second freedom fight and this time it is not against any outsiders but will be against cow traffickers.

Cattle thieves have started entering compounds of cow owners with swords and lethal weapons and without any mercy are taking cows away. These thieves are a threat to the lives of women and elderly people. The government and police have completely failed to control cattle mafia and illegal cow slaughtering houses.

Addressing the gathering, Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell said, “Last week, our leaders announced the formation of Gau Rakshak Dal in the district. Soon after this, the district president of SDPI submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner stating that action should be taken against Bajrang Dal and VHP. This move of SDPI is suspicious. Instead of demanding action against cow thieves, why are they demanding action against our organisations?”

The district administration should take effective action against illegal abattoirs in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru, Sharan said.
