Bantwal: Job seeker loses Rs 9.79 lakhs by responding to online ad

Bantwal: A jobseeker was duped Rs 9.79 lakh after responding to a job advertisement posted on Facebook.
The victim, Rajesh Alva of Veerakambha village here, lodged a complaint with the DK District CEN police station in this regard.
According to the complaint, Rajesh was employed by a Bengaluru-based company and was working from home. As the salary was low, he wanted to change jobs. On February 18, he came across a job advertisement on Facebook and contacted the WhatsApp number posted in it.
After processing his application and bio-data, the scammers demanded fees for visa-processing fees, customs clearance, etc., and asked him to deposit the money through ATM Cash deposit machines, PhonePay, and PayTM to various bank accounts.
When he realized he had been conned, Rajesh transferred Rs 9.79 lakhs to the scammers’ accounts.
