Bantwal: A 22-year-old newlywed woman, identified as Nauseen, hailing from Subhash Nagar in Sajipa Mooda village, took her own life on October 25 in what is now alleged to be a case of dowry harassment within her marital home.

A relative of Nauseen registered a formal police complaint with the Bantwal Town police station, alleging dowry harassment by her husband Azmaan, mother-in-law Zubaida, and sister-in-law Azmealed of abetting her suicide.

Nauseen’s love story with Azman from Ullal began on social media, primarily through Instagram, culminating in a love marriage that received the approval of both families. They exchanged vows on August 14 this year.

At the time of their union, Nauseen’s family reportedly bestowed her with a substantial wedding gift of 180 grams of gold.

However, Azman allegedly disposed of Nauseen’s possessions within days of their marriage. Additionally, he is said to have incessantly pressured her for more gold. It is alleged that Nauseen’s mother-in-law, Zubaida, and sister-in-law, Azmea, also subjected her to mental torture, using their disapproval of the love marriage as a pretext.

Eventually, on October 24, Nauseen sought refuge at her mother’s home in Sajipa Mooda, leaving her husband’s residence in Ullal. She reportedly hanged herself to death on October 25, when none were at home.

Suicide is preventable. If you get any such thoughts, consult or seek expert help.
