Bantwal: Sexual assault on minor girl; Gang rape suspected

Bantwal: A suspected case of gang rape of a minor girl was reported from Amtadi near here.
The town police station has registered a case under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to sources, the victim has given a statement to the police saying she was taken to an undisclosed location and raped there. Later she was released at a secluded spot near Brahmarakootlu.
Reports said police found a recording of CCTV cameras installed at the drop-off location.
There are some loose ends to the case, but the police are investigating the matter as a case of gang rape, sources said.
The latest reports said some clues have been gathered about the alleged perpetrators.

As per the FIR, the incident occurred on the morning of October 8. The 16-year-old victim was on her way to school at 7 am when several men travelling in a white car abducted her. The five men allegedly gang-raped the girl later.
Currently, the girl is being treated at the Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru after being transferred from Bantwal’s government hospital on October 8.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered on the basis of the victim’s statement at the Bantwal town police station.
Based on preliminary investigations, the police apprehended two suspects and are continuing their investigations.
