Bantwal city police station has registered a case against two persons in connection with an attempt to defame the family of a police officer and obstruct duty.

Two individuals, Manish Poojary and Manjunath Acharya, both residents of Tumbe, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to the complaint filed by police personnel named Kumar, who is currently stationed at Bantwal DYSP Office, the incident involved an attempt to defame his family. Kumar was staying at the police hostel in BC Road while working on a case with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after the recent Praveen Nettaru murder case.

Due to work commitments, Kumar’s presence at the hostel had become infrequent, leading him to occasionally stay with his family at a lodging house in BC Road. On July 27, while Kumar and his family were returning from dinner at a local hotel, they were followed by two youths who confronted him.

The accused verbally assaulted Kumar, accusing him of roaming with Muslim and Hindu girls During the altercation, Kumar was physically assaulted. Furthermore, the accused attempted to molest Kumar’s wife and even recorded a video of the incident.

Following the filing of the complaint, the Bantwal police swiftly arrested the two accused individuals.
