Belagavi: Suspect in ganja case dies in police custody

Belagavi: A man who was brought in for questioning in a ganja case died in police custody on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Basanagouda Eragouda Patil (46), a resident of Bellad Bagewadi village in Hukkeri taluk.

Belagavi Rural police had brought Basanagouda to the police station for questioning based on a tip-off in connection with the ganja case.  During the interrogation, his health reportedly deteriorated, and he started vomiting. Though he was allegedly rushed to a hospital, he died without responding to treatment.

Meanwhile, DCP Ravindra Gadadi said that a case has been registered based on a complaint received from the wife of the deceased man. The case will be handed to the Bengaluru CID, he added.
