Belagavi: A tense situation prevailed in Belagavi’s Navage village after a group of about 30 people allegedly vandalised four houses and resorted to stone pelting thus damaging vehicles. Those who were targeted include former and present Panchayat members, police said.
The incident took place reportedly over a love affair between a high school student from Karle village and a college boy from Navage village. Maruti Hurakadli of Navage village had intervened in the matter as a Panch.
Angered over this the group wielding firearms, swords and sticks went on a rampage vandalising Hurakadli’s house and that of others.
Following the untoward incident, police have been deployed in the area. DCP Rohan Jagadish, rural ACP Girish H.V, and other senior officers visited the area. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
After receiving information, Karnataka Woman and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar visited the spot on Tuesday and took stock of the situation.
