Belgaum: Four vehicles carrying bovine meat to Goa via Kittur was stopped by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal activists near Hirebagewadi toll plaza and handed over to the police.

At around 12 pm on Thursday, June 11, vehicles were leaving for Goa filled with the meat. The activists had come to know about the presence of the meat and were waiting near the toll plaza for the vehicles. When the vehicles arrived they stopped them and on finding the meat handed them over to the police.

Vehicular traffic on the Chorla Ghat road to Goa is less at night. The vehicles had lied about the goods they were carrying and had crossed the check posts.

It is said that there is a high demand for beef in Goa.

Many vehicles carrying illegal bovine meat have been apprehended in Belgaum since the past few days. Vehicles have been found at Channamma Circle and Tilakwadi Big Bazaar.

A vehicle was even burned near Karle in the taluk due to this reason by an angry mob.
