‎Belthangady:‎‎ More than 14 quintals of Anna Bhagya ration, which was illegally stored in a private grocery shop near Gerukatte here, was seized by government officials on June 1 at around 5 pm in the presence of Tahsildar.‎

The government-subsidized rice meant for distribution at the fair price shops for BPL families was found at the SV Traders, a private grocery shop. The matter came to light when the sacks were being transferred onto a vehicle for transportation.

A complaint was later filed with the Belthandagdy Police about the illegal storage and pilfering of government rations.

Many cases of diversion of food grain meant for fair price shops to private traders have come to light recently. A week ago 33 quintals of rations that were being illegally transported from Kakkinje to Mudigere were confiscated at a checkpoint in Charmadi.
