Belthangady: Policeman loses life in bike-scooter collision

Beltangady: A policeman was killed in a bike-scooter head-on collision in Neralakatte near Punjalkatte here on Friday, October 15.
The deceased has been identified as H C Aboobakar (47), who was head constable deployed at Punjalkatte station. He residing at Marodi in Venur.
Sources said that the incident happened while the victim was on his way home. He reportedly breathed his last on when he was being transported to the hospital.
The other rider Durga Prasad, a resident of Irvathur, was also seriously injured in the incident and has been rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Govt. Healthcare Centre locked!
The injured Aboobakar was first taken to the Punjalakatte primary health centre. However, the hospital was locked and the doctors had gone on leave while other staff were also not present in the hospital.
Aboobakar, who was in a critical condition, died on the way to the government hospital in Bantwal.
The locals were outraged at the closure of the primary healthcare centre. This is an example of the callousness of the government hospitals, locals said.
The locals also alleged that similar incidents in the past. Injured and patients had to suffer without getting proper treatment due to the unavailability of doctors and staff, they said.
Meanwhile, the staff of Punjalkatte police station mourned the death of their colleague. They lamented that they could not save the life of a colleague who died before their eyes.
The deceased head constable is survived by his wife and three children.
