A 12-year-old boy was electrocuted to death after he accidentally came in contact with an electrical wire at a BBMP playground in Ramachandrapura near Vidyaranyapura on Monday evening.
The victim, identified as Mani was a class 5 student. His parents are daily wage laborers at a private firm.
On Monday evening, Mani was playing cricket with his friends at the park. Mani came in contact with the live electric wire and died of electrocution when he went to fetch a ball that had rolled near an old toilet.
The other children were unharmed as they did not go close to him.
Angered by the negligence of the authorities at leaving the electric wire unattended at the park frequented by children and the elderly, locals staged a protest at the spot. The situation was brought under control following police intervention.
Police investigating the incident said that the boy’s parents are yet to lodge a complaint.
