Bengaluru: A 21-acre barren land in Sagar of Shivamogga, purchased by a Bengaluru-based entrepreneur, Suresh Kumar, has been converted into a dense forest in ten years.

Kumar converted the land with the help of a renowned environmentalist Akhilesh Chipli. Chipli said,  “This forest is named Usha Kiran after 10 years of struggle. It is a green initiative model. Ten years ago it was like a desert. Now it is covered in green. It shaped a natural forest having Western Ghats native species.”

He further said that  the majority of the plants in the forest are growing naturally and they planted only a few varieties.

Now it has become a study centre for environmentalists and students. Also, Bird photography enthusiasts visit the forest often, Chipli added.
