Bengaluru students win exceptional award at Microsoft Imagine Cup

Bengaluru: An application to battle fake medicines has helped a group of students from Bengaluru win an exceptional award at the yearly Microsoft Imagine Cup world championship held at the tech giant’s headquarter in Redmond, US.
The awards declared on Wednesday saw “Team DrugSafe” from R. V. college of Engineering here win the award under Big Data category.
Group smartARM from Canada rose as the world champion of Imagine Cup 2018 with their prosthetic hand that calculates appropriate grip for objects using Microsoft Azure Machine Learning and Computer Vision.
As the top winner, Team smartARM got money prize of $85,000 and an Azure grant worth $50,000.
They will likewise have a coaching session with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, the organization said in an announcement.
Group DrugSafe, which was one of the three students team representing India at the completion, got a cash prize of $15,000.
With DrugSafe, Chidroop I, Pratik Mohapatra, and Srihari HS wish to battle the developing worldwide issue of fake medications by helping individuals check the authenticity of medicines.
The group intends to use the cash prize to look for new associations and integrate more Azure administrations into the app to make it all the more powerful.
