A woman posing as a doctor allegedly stole 46 grams of gold jewellery from an elderly woman patient, admitted to a hospital in Viveknagar under the pretext of examining her.

The victim G Saras had been admitted to the hospital for respiratory issues. On January 14, a woman wearing a medical coat entered the room and asked the woman’s son Ramesh Kumar to wait outside as she examined the patient. While leaving the room she advised Ramesh not to disturb the patient.

A little later, a nurse came to take the patients blood sample for test. Ramesh enquired about the doctor with the nurse who claimed she had no knowledge. Upon checking Ramesh noticed that his mother’s chain and ring were missing.

A similar incident took place with another patient admitted at the hospital. Ramesh approached the Ashoknagar police to lodge a complaint.

Police examined the CCTV footage in which the woman can be seen entering and leaving the hospital wearing the medical coat. Reportedly she was not stopped by security because of the attire worn by her.

A search has been launched to nab the accused.
