Bhatkal: Landslide recurs at Muttalli; Six houses in peril

Bhatkal: The landslide recurred at the same spot in Muttalli, where four people had died earlier, triggering worry among the local residents.

On the morning of August 2, the earth on the hillock had slid off after a spell of overnight rains. Four persons were killed after being buried under the debris.

The unstable section on the hillside, which has been sliding off little by little for the past 2 to 3 days, suddenly gave way, triggering another landslide. The fresh mudslide has put several houses nearby in danger.

The mudslide has reached the edge of the road on top of the hill. Now residents fear that any further landslide could cut off the only access road to the area.

Although notices were already issued to six neighboring households to vacate the premises, so far, none heeded the requests.
