Mangaluru: BJP MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty has urged the Christian community to extend their support to the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, popularly called Anti-Conversion Law.
Shetty said that the Bill aims to prohibit religious conversion by means of coercion, allurement etc.
His remarks came in the backdrop of the recent protest staged by the Catholic community against the recent Anti-Conversion Bill proposed by the state government and also against other issues like atrocities committed on Christians. Through the protest, the government was urged to drop the anti-conversion bill as it is in clear violation of Constitutional Rights. The bill can be misused and the Christian community will have to face a lot of hardship, the protestors stated.
Shetty stated that by staging the protest, the Christian community unknowingly played into the hands of organisations involved with religious conversions.
