Bengaluru: A 21-year-old engineering student landed in jail for allegedly threatening to bomb the Bengaluru airport.
The accused Vaibhav Ganesh, a resident of Kudlu Gate in the city is pursuing his B.Tech course at a private university in Punjab.
Reportedly Vaibhav’s parents hail from Punjab and had recently shifted to Bengaluru. While visiting his parents here Vaibhav often expressed anger over the traffic jam on the airport route to his parents.
On December 10, Vaibhav had taken a cab to his parent’s house from the airport. However he lost his cool since there was heavy traffic on the route. In a fit of rage Vaibhav took to Twitter at around 10.15 pm and wrote “I will bomb the Bengaluru airport. Therefore another airport will have to be rebuilt closer to the city.”
The tweet remained unnoticed until an airport staff saw it on December 12 and brought it to the knowledge of Bengaluru airport terminal manager Roopa Mathew, who subsequently filed a police complaint. However, as the police treated this as a non-serious offense, Mathew approached the court
The JMFC Court of Devanahalli heard the case and ordered the arrest of the accused.
Following his arrest, Vaibhav has been remanded to judicial custody.
