Cauvery issue: Union government is with K’taka farmers: Shobha Karandlaje

Mysuru: Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje blamed the “irresponsibility” of the Karnataka government for the setback suffered by the state in the Cauvery River water dispute.

Speaking to reporters here, Karandlaje said that the Union government as well as the BJP are with the farmers of Karnataka and pro-Kannada organisations.

Karandlaje alleged that the state government failed to present scientific data about water availability to the courts and the Cauvery Water Management Authority. Instead, they are busy blaming the Prime Minister, she said.

She said that the issue of not presenting the scientific data to the CWMA was discussed at the CM and DCM’s meeting with the people’s representatives in Delhi.

“We fully support the Karnataka farmers’ struggle. Once the water is let to Tamil Nadu it can’t be returned even after the situation there improves. It will be a loss for us,” she said.

Further, she said that an appeal has been sent to the Union Water resource Minister for  sending a delegation from Delhi to assess the situation in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
