Bengaluru: Health Minister K Sudhakar has said that the State has received Rs 1,500 crore assistance from the Central government to manage a possible third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.

He said this while speaking after inaugurating a new hospital and its vaccination centre at Jayanagar here.

“It is a great pleasure to see that a team of young physicians has rendered excellent service in Kalaburagi and has now opened a hospital in Bengaluru. When the number of COVID-19 cases increased, there was a shortage of health care facilities in the State. The cooperation given by the private hospitals at that time was very commendable. United Hospital at Kalaburagi district has treated thousands of COVID-19 patients. The State government is making every effort to make Karnataka a model State in healthcare. The cooperation of private hospitals is essential to achieve success in this,” he said.

“The Central government has allocated Rs 23,000 crore to manage the possible third wave of the pandemic in the country at the recent Union Cabinet meeting. Out of this Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated to the State, which will be used to increase the capacity of the paediatric wards in the State’s hospital. Under the leadership of the chief minister all necessary arrangements have been made for the third wave,” Sudhakar added.
