Belthangady: A wildfire near the Charmadi ghat destroyed around 60 acres of “shola “forest (grassland) in the Somanakadu region.
Although the forest officials managed to douse the fire on Tuesday, it is estimated that the wildfire may have killed several birds, insects, and reptiles in addition to destroying about 60 acres of forest.
It is suspected that the mishap may have occurred during the construction of the fire line by the forest officials.
DCFO for the Chikkamagaluru division, NE Kranthi, ruled out the involvement of criminals in the wildfire.
Swati, RFO, Wildlife Division said that the construction of the fire line will begin in the coming days in order to prevent forest fires in the Charmadi Ghat area.
