Bengaluru: A meeting of Anganwadi workers with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other concerned government departments in Bengaluru on Monday turned to be fruitful after the government agreed to raise the salary of Anganwadi workers by Rs 1,000.

Accordingly, the salary has been increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 while salary of Anganwadi helpers has been increased by Rs 500.

The Anganwadi Workers’ organizations had staged a 24-hour strike in Bengaluru for three consecutive days last month urging that their demands be fulfilled. Earlier, the workers had also demanded that the state government fixed their salary at Rs 10, 000.

Meanwhile, the state government has agreed to form service rules for the workers and to take steps to start LKG and UKG classes for children in Anganwadis throughout Karnataka.
