Shivamogga: Home Minister Araga Jnanendra expressed his anger over the police’s failure to stop illegal transportation of cattle in the state.
In a viral video, the Minister was seen talking to a senior police official over the phone, during a meeting on Thursday. Araga alleged that some policemen were taking bribes from those into the illegal trade of cattle.
The Minister was heard saying, “All policemen have become worst. We are paying policemen handsome salaries. But, they are working for the leftovers they get from those into illegal activities. Don’t you people have a sense of self-respect? I had never spoken like this. But, as home minister, should I continue or not?”
“If they cannot work as per the law, let them give up their jobs and stay at home. Why cannot you implement the law we have passed? The criminals are taking away cows from cattle sheds at knife-point. From tomorrow, movement of all cattle should be stopped,” he added.
However, the Home Minister later clarified that he did not generalize to include all policemen and was referring to only those who are hand in glove with illegal cattle transporters as recently cattle theft case was reported in Thirthahalli where two Bajrang Dal workers were injured.
He further said that he respects the Karnataka police and all of them aren’t corrupt.
