COVID-19: Former Chamarajanagar MLA C Guruswamy passes away at 68

Chamarajanagar: Former MLA of Chamarajanagar Assembly constituency C. Rajendra Guruswamy (68) passed away due to COVID-19 at a private hospital in Mysuru on Wednesday, August 19.
The 68-year-old BJP leader tested COVID-19 positive and was admitted to a private hospital in Mysore on August 5. However, he passed away at 7 am on Wednesday morning.
C. Guruswamy who is a lawyer by profession started his political career with the Janatadal and was a member of the Mysore District Zilla Parishad.
In the 1999 assembly elections, he won the elections representing BJP in Chamarajanagar constituency. He was also the first and only BJP MLA in the constituency as well.
After the 1999-2004 period, Gurswami left the BJP and joined the Congress and he was district president. He left the Congress and re-joined BJP. He was identified as one of the most prominent BJP leaders in the district.
He is survived by wife Sheela, two daughters, and district BJP general secretary, lawyer Nagashree Pratap.
