Custom officials thwart four gold smuggling bids at M’luru airport

Customs officials at Mangaluru International airport thwarted four gold smuggling incidents and confiscated 1,449 grams of gold of 24-carat purity from their possession on September 26 and 27.

During the frisking and surveillance measures, the Customs officials recovered 1273 grams of gold concealed inside the rectum, air pods, and height adjustable pipe of the kid’s scooter by three passengers who had arrived from Dubai/Abu Dhabi to Mangaluru on different flights (IX814, IX384, IX816) on September 26 and 27.

One of the passengers was arrested. The value of the confiscated gold is estimated at Rs 76,50,730

In the fourth instance on September 27, a passenger who arrived from Dubai on IX384 flight was found secretly smuggling 176 grams of gold concealed in two airpods, two mobile chargers and three wristwatches. The value of the confiscated gold is estimated at Rs 10,54,240.
