Gadag: In a historic event, the coronation of Dewan Sharif Mulla as the spiritual head of Koraneshwara Shantidhama in Asooti village was performed today in the presence of hundreds of devotees.
Under the guidance of Murughendra Swamiji of Kalaburagi Koraneshwara math, procedures and rituals connected with the installation of Dewan Sharif Mulla were performed at the Shantidhama.
In his benedictory address, Muughendra Koraneshwara Swamiji advised the mathas and other bodies in the implementation of social revolutionary ideas preached by Jagajyoti Basaveshwara. He said that Lingayat is not a term that denotes any religion or caste and by following the path preached by Basavanna honestly one can realize the dream of equality.
“Diwan Sharif was introduced into Linga Deeksha on November 10 last. He has been trained in the ideals and customs of Lingayat religion, background, tradition etc besides teaching him the 12th century Vachanas. Efforts would be made to shape Koraneshwara Shanthidhama at Asooti into a centre of faith where all religions will be treated as equal under Diwan Sharif Mulla’s leadership,” he stated.
