DKDFA moves court against construction of stalls at Nehru Maidan for Central Mkt vendors

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Football Association (DKDFA) approached the Second Additional Civil Judge and JMFC Court in Mangaluru seeking an injunction against the ongoing construction of temporary stalls at Nehru Maidan, undertaken by MCC in order to accommodate the Central market vendors.

The association has in its petition stated that the area where the construction work has been undertaken was reserved to develop other amenities for the sports ground and also for parking of vehicles.

Several athletes use the playground for sports practice and also for organising football and cricket tournaments. We want to save the playground for sports activities,” the petition says.

It is alleged that the MCC commenced the work at the playground without discussing the issue with sports associations.

The court has issued notice to the defendants – Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner and the MCC Commissioner and asked them to submit their arguments.
