Duo arrested for blackmailing 76-yr-old businessman with sex video

Mangaluru: The city police on Tuesday arrested two persons, including a Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) member on charges of blackmailing, extortion and kidnap of an elderly businessman in the city.
Kutthar resident Rajesh Pavithran, 32, and KRV member Srilatha are the arrested while a search is on for the other accused in the case.
The gang allegedly recorded a video of the 76-year-old businessman named Shashi in a sexual act with a woman and started blackmailing him with the threat of making the video public.
On September 23, Shashi was asked to come near the Karavali Utsava ground where Srilatha and other members of the gang were waiting for him. Upon Shashi’s arrival, the gang kidnapped him and took him to an isolated spot and demanded a sum of Rs 5 lakh failing which they threatened to upload the video on social media.
However since Shashi did not concede to their demands, they assaulted him and robbed him off his gold chain weighing 4.5 sovereigns, two gold rings, a watch and Rs 18,000. The man then filed a complaint at Barke police station.
A case had been registered in this regards at Barke police station. The accused were produced before a court which remanded them in judicial custody.
