Belagavi: Fire and Emergency Services personnel recovered the body of a two-year-old toddler, who was reported missing since Friday evening from an abandoned borewell in a sugarcane field at Raibhag here.

While initially it was thought that the toddler, Sharad Siddappa Hasare had accidentally slipped into the borewell, it is now suspected that his father, Siddappa smothered Sharad and later dumped his body in the borewell.

It is alleged that Siddappa refused to accept Sharad as his son and had been suspecting fidelity of his wife Rajashri and thus murdered the toddler.

According to sources Siddappa has confessed to the crime during police interrogation.

Meanwhile, police said that they will probe the case from all angles including allegations by close relatives that the father himself has murdered the child.
