Four feared drowned after car gets swept off overflowing bridge

Belagavi: Belagavi Rural police have launched a search operation for four people, feared drowned after their car was washed away while crossing an overflowing bridge near Santibastwad village in Belagavi taluk on Tuesday evening.

Locals said that though they tried to warn the car driver not to attempt to cross the overflowing bridge, he ignored their warnings and entered the bridge. However, the car was swept away due to the water current and plunged into a gorge below.

They added that the car was black in colour and was approaching from Visvesvaraya Technological University.

Belagavi Rural police along with fire brigade personnel’s have launched a search operation to trace the vehicle and missing persons on Wednesday morning.
