Gold over Rs 92 lakhs seized from Dubai returnee at M’luru airport

Mangaluru: Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport intercepted an air passenger and seized gold valued at over Rs 92 lakhs from his possession.

The passenger, Mohammed Ashif, 28, a resident of Ullal had arrived from Dubai via Air India flight in the wee hours of Saturday, April 3. He was trying to smuggle gold by concealing it in specially designed inner garments, jeans trousers, and knee pads. The net weight of seized gold is 1.993 kgs valuing at Rs 92,27,590.

Further investigation is under progress.

The operation was led by Avinash Kiran Rongali I.R.S Deputy Commissioner. Crucial role of surveillance and interception was executed by Superintendents Srikanth and Satish along with Inspector Mr. Praful.
