Mangaluru: Customs officers at the Mangalore International Airport seized smuggled gold worth a whopping Rs 1.36 Crore from two passengers on June 14.

In the first case, around 964 grams of 24-carat gold was found on a male passenger arriving from Dubai. The gold in powder form was packed into four oval-shaped objects concealed in his rectum, customs officials said in a release. The market value of the confiscated gold is estimated to be Rs 49.74 lakhs.

In the other instance, a female passenger was carrying 24-carat gold weighing 1.684 kg worth more than Rs 86.89 lakhs. The gold was cleverly concealed into transparent rectangular pouches designed to look like sanitary pads in an underwear-type garment.
