Good public response for weekend curfew in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi: Life was almost paralyzed in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district on Saturday due to the implementation of a weekend curfew.

The weekend curfew begins from 10 pm on Friday and will last till 5 am on Monday. Essential services were allowed to operate in both the districts. Despite public vehicles, including buses, were allowed to run, traffic was scarce. There was also little public movement.

No complaints were reported about any issues in holding pre-planned private ceremonies, including weddings. Since there is no rule to obtain permission for holding a program, no information is available as to how many programs were held.

People were allowed to travel as usual till 9 am in Mangaluru city. After 10 am, the police barricaded roads, stopped unnecessary traffic, and registered cases against some vehicle owners for violation of curfew. Some vehicles were also seized.

61 check posts set up
As many as 61 check posts were set up in Dakshina Kannada of which 30 check posts were set up under Mangaluru police commissionerate, Another 9 came up along the Kerala border in Dakshina Kannada.

Hotels and restaurants were open in both the districts and only parcel services were allowed. Public parks remained shut. Since it was the second Saturday of the month, state and central government offices, autonomous bodies and corporations were not open.
