GP polls: 75.05 % voter turnout in DK, 74.10 % in Udupi

Mangaluru, Udupi: Despite COVID-19 scare, the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi recorded voter turnout above expectation.

In Dakshina Kannada district, as per preliminary figures, Bantwal taluk recorded the highest voter turnout at 77.77 per cent, while Mangaluru saw 72.37 per cent turnout and Moodabidri 72.82 per cent.

Elections for the gram panchayats in Belthangady, Puttur, Sullia, Kadaba taluks will be held in December 27.

In Udupi district, Hebri, Brahmavara, Byndoor and Udupi taluks saw a combined voter turnout of 74.10 per cent.

Hebri taluk recorded the highest voter turnout at 79.41 per cent, while Udupi taluk recorded 74.80 per cent and Byndoor 71.28 per cent.

Elections were held without any disturbances in the 11 Naxal-hit polling stations in the district. The polling at these stations was videographed. About 600 police personnel and 4 KSRP battalions and 8 district armed police reserves battalions were deployed here.
