Udupi: Continuous heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in several parts of Udupi district, resulting in widespread flooding. Neighborhoods such as Kalsanka, Bailakere, Bannanje Garadi Road, and Kunjibettu in the city have been severely affected, disrupting the lives of local residents. As a safety measure, over 15 families in imminent danger were evacuated to secure locations.
In the Bailakere area near Krishna Math, seven or eight families have been evacuated to ensure the safety of their inhabitants. Similarly, in the Bannanje-Garadi road area, more than fifty houses have been inundated, with eight houses being completely submerged, leaving people at risk of flooding.
The intensity of the rainfall was particularly severe on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, causing the Indrani river to overflow.
The blockage of rainwater canals in various locations exacerbated the situation, leading to artificial flooding.
Rural areas such as Kukkikatte and Kemthur also witnessed water entering some houses due to heavy rainfall. Additionally, low-lying areas of Udupi city and agricultural lands have been completely submerged.
Recognizing the urgent need for assistance, a team of municipal officials and the emergency operations team of civil servants promptly visited the affected areas in the city. Municipal authorities have informed that the fire brigade team and boats are on standby, prepared to offer immediate support if required.
The incessant rainfall has caused significant disruption and distress to the residents of Udupi. Efforts are underway to provide relief and ensure the safety of those affected.
