Heavy rains with gusty wind create havoc in ‘Land of Coffee’

Madikeri: Kodagu also known as the “Coffee cup of India” has been observing very heavy rainfalls for the past two weeks. The rains have continued to devastate public life.
On Tuesday night, the windy weather caused havoc in several parts of the district.
In places like Shanivarasanthe, Somwarapet, and other towns and villages, trees have been uprooted due to heavy winds. Compound walls of the houses have also collapsed. Due to the falling of trees and especially electric poles in many places of the district, people experienced power cuts for hours together. Commuters also faced issues in reaching their destination.
On Wednesday, the heavy rains along with gusty wind continued to hamper daily life.
As per the weather reports, the district observed 116.73 percent of rainfall in the year 2019 and 105.86 in 2020. In the years 2021 and 2022, the district has observed 97.32 and 114.26 percent rainfall, respectively.
