Mangaluru: Along with building highways and to provide different facilities to the travellers, the National highway authority of India has come forward with the initiative to set up modern canteens at all the “Toll Plazas” in the country which will be constructed at every toll plaza at a distance of 200-250 meters from the toll plaza.

Through this initiative it has been decided to provide hotel, rest room, wash room and parking facilities at all the toll plazas along the national highway. This initiative has already started functioning at various places in the country and will soon begin functioning completely at all the toll plazas in the state. Canteen, wash room and water ATM are the three prominent facilities that will be provided at the toll plazas.

“Highway Nest” along the toll plazas in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district is being familiarized and initial preparations are also being carried. It everything goes according to the plan, the facilities will be available at all the toll plazas in a span of two months. The work on “Highway Nest” near the toll gate at Bhramarakutlu has already begun. A few months back the equipments were brought and the nest has been created. Concrete work is being done around it and the work on washroom and water ATM will be done soon.

What will be there?

“Highway Nest Mini” will have chips, biscuits, cookies and a variety of packed edibles, water bottles, cold drinks and tea-coffee facility here. There will also be a water ATM here. By giving money, one can make use of equally valued drinking water from the water ATM which functions like an ATM. Washrooms for men and women is situated right next to the canteen and this has been designed to be disabled friendly. Parking facility will also be provided at places where there is availability of land.

Why “Highway Nest”?

Since many years, travelers have been a demanding for provision of hotel, rest room, washroom and parking facilities at the toll plazas along the national highway. At some locations where the NH goes through, the distance between any two shops could be by many kilometers thus causing difficulty to the travelers along such routes. Therefore, at least to provide washroom, parking and other facilities at the toll plazas, the national highway authority of India has come up with the initiative of constructing “Highway Nest” at all the toll plazas in the country.
