Bengaluru:  Congress party on Saturday appointed senior leader and former minister HK Patil as Chairman of the Campaign Committee of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

As per the All India Congress Committee release, Patil will replace Water Resources Minister DK Shivakumar with immediate effect

Since Patil could not be accommodated in the Cabinet, which was expanded on Saturday the party leadership appointed him as chairman of the campaign committee in an attempt to woo voters of north Karnataka, said party sources.

Patil will now have the responsibility of organising and coordinating the campaign along with coalition partner JD (S) as General elections are due early next year.
