House burgled of cash, gold; one burglar caught by public, beaten, hospitalized

Ullal: Three burglars gained access to a house in Ullal the absence of its residents and made off with cash and gold worth lakhs. However, while escaping, one of the burglar was caught by the local public and severely beaten.

The thief who was caught by the public while making good his escape is identified as Shanmugham (40), a native of Tamil Nadu. Since he was grievously injured by the public, he has been admitted to a private hospital in Thokkottu.

The Burglary

The burglary took place at Jaswil Manzil, house of late Mohammed of Halekote near here on the night of Saturday, November 25. The house was empty as its residents had been to a relative’s house to attend a family function. . The burglars who gained access into the house by breaking the lock stole 17 sovereigns of gold and Rs 3.70 lakh in cash that was kept in the cupboard.

The Rescue

On receiving information that a burglar was being thrashed by a mob, the Ullal police rushed to the spot and rescued the victim by arresting him on the charges of theft. They later admitted the grievously injured burglar to a private hospital. The police is also on the lookout for the remaining two burglars, who have escaped with the gold and cash stolen from the house.

Ullal police have registered a case in connection to the burglary.
