Jio tops 4G download speed chart; Vodafone in upload in September: TRAI

Reliance Jio continues to lead in the average 4G download speed chart published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) for September,2020.

Jio achieved 19.3 Mbps average download speed in the month of September, witnessing an improvement from 15.9 Mbps in August,2020.

Reliance Jio has been the fastest 4G operator for the last three consecutive years with highest average download speed every month. Performance of Bharti Airtel improved marginally in September to 7.5 Mbps from 7.0 Mbps in August, according to the data published by TRAI.

Though Vodafone and Idea Cellular have merged their businesses, TRAI publishes their network performance separately. Vodafone network registered 7.9 Mbps average download speed in September, a marginal improvement from 7.8 Mbps in August.

Idea also registered an improvement in average download speed from 8.3 Mbps in the month of August to 8.6 Mbps in September.

Vodafone topped the average 4G upload speed chart with 6.5 Mbps in September, an improvement from 6.2 Mbps in the month of August.

Idea registered 6.4 Mbps average upload speed in September, while both Airtel and Jio achieved the same average upload speed of 3.5Mbps.

The average speed is computed by TRAI based on data it collects with help of its MySpeed application on a real-time basis.
