Kadaba: Leaders of Hindu organizations, on Tuesday, inspected the church spot where a saffron flag was allegedly flown on the church tower.
A video was widely circulated on social media claiming that a saffron flag had been hoisted at the under-renovation Emmanuel Church AG at Renjilady Village by miscreants. It showed that a statue installed on the tower was also torn down. The doors of the church were smashed and a picture of a Hindu deity was found on the altar.
After visiting the spot, Bajrang Dal leader Murali Krishna Hasantadka denied the role of Hindu organizations in the incident. The building, where the church stands, was once leased out to a Christian man by its owner Vishwanath Gowda. It was converted to a church and the congregation tried to build a cemetery in the vicinity. Locals protested the move, and the plan was shelved, he said.
He also alleged that the video was made and posted to gain public sympathy. He called for the authorities to clear the illegal structure and hand over the land to its rightful owner, Vishwanath Gowda.
He warned that fierce protests will be staged if the demands were not met.
