The injured elephant that was found in the Bagpuni of Kenjar area tragically died on the night of Thursday, April 27.
Veterinary surgeons, Dr. Ajith from Kadaba and Dr. Mujeeb from Hunsur, had been called in on Thursday after the tusker was found in a stream struggling to get out of the water.
Upon examination, it was found that the elephant was approximately 50 years old and had an injury in its mouth, which was preventing the animal from eating properly. The veterinarians determined that anesthesia was necessary to treat the elephant, but due to the animal’s weakened state, it was not able to withstand the procedure.
The treatment was dropped as the risks of administering anesthesia outweighed the potential benefits for the elephant.
later int he day, the elephant struggled and managed to come out of the stream and it headed into the forest. Unfortunately, the dead body of the elephant was found in Bagepuni on the morning of Friday, April 28.
