Udupi: The volunteers at the Kadiyali Ganeshotsava Committee were in for a surprise on March 30, when an old lady arrived at their free lunch parcel service centre set up at Sharada Kalyana Mantapa.
The Committee has been distributing food packets to the need in the city since the beginning of the national lockdown on March 25.
On March 30, at about 11:45 am, the 80-year old lady arrived at the Mantapa. Thinking that she had come for the food, volunteers there asked her to wait as preparations were ongoing.
Little did they know that she had instead come to donate a plastic canister full of boiled rice as her small contribution towards the Committee’s yeoman’s job in feeding the destitute.
Volunteers and Committee’s General Secretary K Raghavendra Kini were overjoyed by the lady’s courteous and large-hearted gesture. They thanked her for the contribution and stated that her actions have further ignited their passions in serving the poor during these difficult times.
