Kallianpur-Santhekatte overpass work: Traffic diversion “experiment” from today

Team Udayavani, Jan 30, 2023, 9:31 AM IST

Udupi: Vehicles at Santhekatte are provisionally being rerouted through an alternate route to facilitate the construction of an overpass at the junction in order to solve the frequent traffic jam as well as accidents.

The work on the project had been halted due to congestion caused by the non-availability of alternate routes for vehicles. Moreover, union Minister Shobha Karandlaje and local MLA Raghupati Bhat had instructed the NHAI authorities to resume work only after a suitable alternate route was identified to ease traffic snarls during construction work.

Accordingly, vehicles are now being re-routed on an “experimental basis” with the coordination of district administration, police, and highway authority.

Alternate route

Heavy vehicles including buses coming from Kundapur towards Udupi shall travel via K.G. Road, Kolalagiri, Uppoor Shimbra Bridge, Perampally, Manipal Coin circle (Upendra Pai Circle), and Syndicate Circle to reach Udupi. The vehicles have to travel an additional 10 km distance to reach Udupi on this route. The experiment will begin on Monday.

Arrangements are also being made for the full use of the service road to benefit the locals of the Santhekatte area.

The vehicle moving towards Kundapura from Udupi shall use the existing route on the National Highway. No alternate routes have been designated for traffic on this route.
